Sitka Whale Watching Marine Tour

Explore the pristine and lively waters of Sitka Sound and the rugged, ancient coastlines of Baranof, Kruzof and the many islands surrounding Sitka aboard our 30’ cabin cruiser, the ideal vessel for adventuring in Southeast Alaska.

Coming to the “Last Frontier” is an adventure in itself—Sitka is located on the western edge of Baranof Island, one of the thousands of islands in the Alexander Archipelago within the Gulf of Alaska—but once here venturing off the island into our many waterways, inlets and bays is the best way to make it an epic adventure.

Here you’ll be immersed in a truly wild place, where you can experience Mother Nature in all her raw glory and observe animals up close and personal thriving in their natural habitats.

This is a wildlife tour in the dynamic, real wilds of Alaska so of course, there are no guarantees as to what we’ll see each day (it’s part of the thrill) but here are some of the possibilities: Humpback whales bubble-net feeding or breaching, steller sea lions sunbathing, sea otters cracking crab or floating their babies on their bellies, orcas being their majestic selves and eagles and ocean birds such as puffins and cormorants fishing and nesting. You might also spot brown bear or deer on shore while we cruise past untouched beaches and mossy riverbanks.

All this while surrounded by islets of lush, green old-growth forests, a dramatic (long dormant) volcano, granite peaks with rushing waterfalls and snow-covered mountains.

It’s all very scenic and thrilling and our vessel, the Blue Dawg is just the kind of boat you want to be on for such an adventure. Not only is it a solid, Alaskan-built, aluminum, twin-engine, USCG approved, very seaworthy vessel, it’s perfect for wildlife and nature viewing in whatever weather with a comfortable heated cabin, large, fog-proof windows and bow and back decks.

We offer this tour three times per day, with morning and afternoon departures. Either choice gives you enough time to stroll downtown Sitka before or after your tour. This tour is 2.5hrs and picks-up/drops-off at Crescent Harbor Shelter (Blue Place Marker on Map) conveniently located by the cruise ship shuttle point. We’ll send details with your confirmation email.
